Niall Watts works as Educational Technology Officer in Educational Technology Services in University College Dublin. His responsibilities include advising academics on uses of educational technology, the design, development and delivery of interactive and media-rich teaching materials and presenting courses and workshops. Recent projects include a massive open online course (MOOC) on Planetary Urbanisation, a risk assessment tool for HIV, case studies in Psychiatry, IT security awareness quizzes and Irish Studies podcasts.
He is a part-time PhD student whose research topic is ‘Developing Digital Fluency in Higher Education’. He is investigating the factors influencing the spread of digital fluency among academic staff in Irish higher education.
Prior to joining UCD he worked in the e-learning industry, in education and as a development worker. He has a degree in Zoology and a Higher Diploma in Education from Trinity College Dublin and an MSc in Software Development from the Open University.
