{"id":11146,"date":"2021-03-24T20:12:20","date_gmt":"2021-03-24T19:12:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/?p=11146"},"modified":"2021-04-02T16:05:52","modified_gmt":"2021-04-02T14:05:52","slug":"launch-of-new-european-media-and-information-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/type\/news\/launch-of-new-european-media-and-information-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"Google becomes the first donor to new European Media and Information Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the European University Institute recently announced the launch of the European Media and Information Fund which will provide grants, on a competitive basis, to researchers, fact-checkers, not-for-profits and other public interest-oriented organisations working on disinformation research and strengthening media literacy and fact-checking. On April 1, the fund announced its first donor which is Google who have contributed 25 Million Euro to the fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fund will support collaborative efforts to debunk disinformation, amplify independent fact-checking and enable targeted research and innovation tools designed to strengthen resilience, and the ecosystems response to disinformation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects supported by the Fund will focus on four areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Media Literacy<\/li><li>Online Disinformation<\/li><li>Fact-checking<\/li><li>Academic research into media, disinformation and information literacy<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/edmo.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">European Digital Media Observatory<\/a>&nbsp;will act as advisor in the formulation of calls, as well as in the evaluation and selection of projects. The multi-donor Fund will have an initial duration of five years, which may be extended.
