Among discussions about the impact of the Digital Services Act and the European Media Freedom Act, and the role of media regulators, a session chaired by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.filminstitutet.se\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Swedish Film Institute\u2019s<\/a> Anette Novak focused on media literacy and the role of resilient and active citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session included three presentations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emma Goodman from the <a href=\"https:\/\/edmo.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Digital Media Observatory<\/a> (in which MLA is a key partner) explained why improving digital media literacy is a crucial part of EDMO\u2019s fight against disinformation, and outlined EDMO\u2019s goals to map the complex media literacy landscape, increase knowledge exchange among practitioners and other experts, and raise standards throughout the sector.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jigsaw.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jigsaw\u2019s<\/a> Beth Goldberg presented the Google think tank\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/sciadv.abo6254\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research<\/a> (in conjunction with the Universities of Cambridge and Bristol) into the concept of pre-bunking, which showed that techniques aiming to pre-empt misinformation can be effective in teaching people to recognise attempts at online manipulation that they encounter on social media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medietilsynet.no\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Norwegian Media Authority\u2019s<\/a> Mari Velsand detailed the progress of a joint Nordic project to develop media literacy indicators, which would allow the participating countries to measure and track public media literacy levels, draw comparisons and develop future projects. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statensmedierad.se\/download\/18.7311975517dc23d09e01877e\/1643033956991\/Towards%20a%20Nordic%20MIL-index.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">feasibility study<\/a> has already been conducted and a full study will be carried out in 2023\/4.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The presenters were then joined by Niklas Cserhalmi from Sweden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arbetetsmuseum.se\/about-the-museum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Museum of Work<\/a>, who discussed the role of museums in media literacy work, given their high levels of public trust.
