{"id":23207,"date":"2023-02-23T10:23:18","date_gmt":"2023-02-23T09:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/?p=23207"},"modified":"2023-02-23T18:26:42","modified_gmt":"2023-02-23T17:26:42","slug":"good-practice-video-repository-for-teachers-and-school-leaders-in-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/type\/featured-articles\/good-practice-video-repository-for-teachers-and-school-leaders-in-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"Good practice video repository for teachers and school leaders in Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>by <strong>Madeleine Murray<\/strong>, PDST Technology in Education, Ireland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Irish Ministry of Education\u2019s agency for digital learning in primary and post primary schools, <strong>PDST Technology in Education\u2019s<\/strong> remit is supporting the national <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ie\/en\/publication\/69fb88-digital-strategy-for-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Digital Strategy for Schools to 2027<\/a>. This strategy is a continuation of the previous Digital Strategy for Schools and builds upon recent developments in digital learning planning and innovation in Irish schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Teacher Professional Learning Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the many objectives of the national strategy is to \u2018support teachers to strengthen their confidence and competence in using digital technologies in teaching, learning and assessment\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PDST Technology in Education supports this objective by providing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a wide range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdsttechnologyineducation.ie\/onlinecourses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online courses<\/a> for teachers in digital learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bespoke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdsttechnologyineducation.ie\/courses-practice\/schoolsupport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in-school support<\/a> by skilled digital technology advisors (all experienced teachers)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>face to face workshops in the network of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdsttechnologyineducation.ie\/courses-practice\/coursesedcentres\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">21 education centres around Ireland<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We also provide a library of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdsttechnologyineducation.ie\/videos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">short classroom based videos<\/a> referred to as videos of <strong>good practice<\/strong>. These videos showcase effective uses of digital technologies in teaching, learning and assessment in Irish schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"511\" src=\"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-1024x511.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-1024x511.png 1024w, https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-768x383.png 768w, https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-1536x766.png 1536w, https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-2048x1021.png 2048w, https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-370x185.png 370w, https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-270x135.png 270w, https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-570x284.png 570w, https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/files\/2023\/02\/Screenshot-2023-02-22-at-11.42.46-1-740x369.png 740w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Screenshot from PDST site<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Good Practice Videos<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 100 videos are now available, hosted both on a dedicated Vimeo channel and on a dedicated page on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdsttechnologyineducation.ie\/videos\/.ie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PDST Technology in Education website<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teachers and school leaders use and share the videos in a variety of contexts, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>staff meetings to inspire and provide examples of effective use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>subject and curriculum planning activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>digital learning team meetings and discussions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Videos are also integrated as examples of practice into our online and face to face courses, and shared with educational partners for their programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Finding Relevant Videos<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full redesign of our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pdsttechnologyineducation.ie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PDST Technology in Education website<\/a> in 2021 provided an opportunity to plan a new interface that would address some of the shortcomings of our original website.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the growth of our good practice library users were reporting issues with how they were displayed on our website, including being overwhelmed by the large number of videos available and having difficulty finding a video relevant to their specific context<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the planned redesign of our website we made it a priority action to provide an improved user experience, so that teachers and school leaders could quickly find videos of relevance to their own context.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Database &amp; The design is in keeping with the overall design approach for the new website.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We launched the new website in April 2022 and initial feedback from users has been positive. We plan to conduct a usability review later in 2023 to identify further areas of improvement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Growing the collection of videos<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course there would be no good practice videos without the amazing Irish schools who allow us to capture and share their practice with others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our digital technology advisors who provide in school support continue to identify schools of interest for future videos.
