The highly anticipated EDMO (European Digital Media Observatory) Annual Conference concluded triumphantly in Brussels on Thursday 25 May 2023. The event brought together media and policy practitioners, policymakers, academics, regulators, journalists and members of civil society to discuss pressing challenges in the digital media landscape and especially on online disinformation and devise effective strategies for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Different topics were covered such as Artificial Intelligence, European Regulations, Open Source Intelligence, the 2022 European Code of Practice, Independant fact-checking and others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A major highlight of the conference was the announcement of the task force dedicated to tackling disinformation in the upcoming 2024 European Parliament Elections. The new EDMO task force will assess the risks ahead of the elections, monitor disinformation and foreign interference campaigns, and connect with other stakeholders working towards similar goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, the conference featured an enlightening presentation on research access to platforms’ data and the introduction of a new working group to facillitate these efforts. Furthermore, a dedicated session on media literacy drew considerable attention. Speakers were invited in a open discussion to share their expereince in effective media literacy interventions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EDMO Annual Conference concluded with wise words from the Vice President of the European Commission V\u011bra Jourov\u00e1 and closing remarks by Miguel Poiares Maduro, European University Institute, EDMO Executive Board.<\/p>\n\n\n
