{"id":3684,"date":"2019-05-06T20:09:52","date_gmt":"2019-05-06T19:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/?p=3684"},"modified":"2019-11-26T10:05:29","modified_gmt":"2019-11-26T10:05:29","slug":"conference-report-use-of-video-in-higher-education-theory-and-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/media-and-learning.eu\/type\/news\/conference-report-use-of-video-in-higher-education-theory-and-practice\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference Report &#8211; Use of Video in Higher Education: Theory and Practice"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A little over 80 people from mostly UK institutions gathered on 16 April 2019 at the University of Oxford&#8217;s Sa\u00efd Business School to discuss the different uses of video in higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference was organised as part of a pilot project to establish a one-touch video recording studio using the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"RapidMooc (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaleducation.ox.ac.uk\/rapidmooc\" target=\"_blank\">RapidMooc<\/a> solution funded by the Oxford IT Innovation <a href=\"https:\/\/it.ox.ac.uk\/innovation-challenges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"challenge (opens in a new tab)\">challenge<\/a>. Part of the project was an effort to learn more about what is known about best practices in the use video across the sector and organising a symposium on the subject was one part of that effort &#8211; taking us beyond a simple literature survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference proved to be a great success with many participants expressing hope that it will evolve into a continuing series. Because this is<br>still a much evolving field, it was organised using a mixed-unconference format. The day consisted of 12 lightning talks, 9 table discussions and a 2-hour open space session. The participants also had a chance to try recording videos using RapidMooc and to see a demo of the Oxford HIVE &#8211; a video-centric remote classroom solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lightning talks were recorded and are now available on the event <br><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" websit (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/videoinhe\" target=\"_blank\"> websit<\/a>e. Google Docs was also used for collective note-taking &#8211; these are also linked to from the event website.
