The Watching Videos Like a Historian<\/em> project offers a practical new approach for integrating Europe\u2019s rich audiovisual heritage into history teaching, while fostering students\u2019 critical media literacy skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the tool:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the core of the project is a comprehensive Toolkit<\/a> designed to equip educators with ready-to-use teaching strategies, eLearning activities, and curated audiovisual galleries. Developed and tested in collaboration with teachers from Poland, Spain, and the Netherlands. The Toolkit helps teachers confidently bring historical media into the classroom, encouraging thoughtful analysis of sources and media narratives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the Toolkit, the project produced a\u00a0Practitioner\u2019s Guide<\/a>\u00a0for<\/span> audiovisual collection holders. This guide offers step-by-step advice on how to adapt and present archival materials for educational use, helping institutions unlock their collections for the classroom, enabling them to turn their materials into resources for educational reuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is grounded in research on media literacy and audiovisual education. Its findings are summarised in the State of the Field Report<\/em> <\/a>and an updated Media Literacy Competence Framework<\/em> for history and citizenship education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By connecting teachers, collection holders, and media literacy experts, Watching Videos Like a Historian<\/em> shows how audiovisual heritage can become a powerful tool for critical thinking and historical inquiry in schools. Project partners are from a diverse group of audiovisual collection holders and experts in media literacy, education and assessment, including EuroClio<\/a>, Europeana Foundation<\/a>, Centrum Cyfrowe<\/a>, The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision- NISV<\/a>, Webtic<\/a> and Corporaci\u00f3 Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals- TV3<\/a>, all representing audiovisual collection holders, educational communities and EU citizens at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
