Media literacy is more essential than ever. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.mobilestories.com\/start-login\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/newsroom.mobilestories.com\/start-login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mobile Stories platform<\/a><\/strong> offers a timely response &#8211; empowering students to become not just consumers, but also responsible creators of media content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally developed in Sweden, Mobile Stories was adapted for international use and piloted across schools in <strong>Finland, Romania and Ireland<\/strong> as part of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/publiceringsverktyg.mobilestories.se\/en\/proms\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/publiceringsverktyg.mobilestories.se\/en\/proms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ProMS project<\/a><\/strong>. An evaluation conducted by Dr Eileen Culloty (Dublin City University) between March 2024 and January 2025 assessed its impact on students\u2019 media literacy through a journalism-based learning approach. A total of <strong>371 students<\/strong> from five schools across three countries took part in the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key findings included:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Improved digital confidence:<\/strong> Students showed consistent gains, with an overall improvement of 11.4 percentage points in self-reported digital skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>School-specific progress in news literacy:<\/strong> Significant increases were seen in some schools, including a 27-point gain at a Finnish vocational school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mixed results in evaluating news:<\/strong> While improvements were minimal overall, results varied across schools and highlighted the need for further study.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vocational learning benefits:<\/strong> Vocational healthcare students &#8211; initially thought less likely to benefit &#8211; showed notable gains in digital confidence and news literacy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The evaluation also highlighted the challenges of assessing media literacy in real school settings and recommended <strong>streamlined questionnaires, stronger teacher engagement and the use of multiple data sources<\/strong> to improve future evaluations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>Read more about what we learned during our international piloting <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/11hUkZR6YOoWdlbfmxaTh6t_OSOfepVI1\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HERE<\/a>.<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>Read the key findings in our research brief <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1oJR1VCWb4hjxPHedt-NdCpPUN7ow13gD\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HERE<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In today\u2019s fast-moving digital environment, misinformation spreads rapidly while young people face increasingly complex online landscapes.
