This month, the Media & Learning Association is pleased to welcome two new organisational members: Lie Detectors, Belgium<\/strong> and the Somali Digital Media Academy * SODMA*, Somalia<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n

SODMA Academy is a non-profit educational initiative based in Somalia dedicated to empowering youth and professionals through digital media, communication, and technology training. The Academy promotes media literacy, digital creativity, and community development by providing practical training, research, and collaboration opportunities across the Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lie Detectors<\/strong> is an independent, award-winning European media literacy organisation dedicated to countering online disinformation and polarisation. Its mission is to empower young people and educators to resist disinformation while promoting a deeper understanding of ethical journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisation runs workshops for journalists, children, educators, and decision-makers, providing educational resources and classroom materials. Through interactive sessions led by trained journalists, participants learn skills in fact-checking, understanding media, and making informed decisions. Lie Detectors\u2019 training approach, developed by founder and Executive Director Juliane von Reppert-Bismarck, emphasises trust, transparency, and cognitive awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a network of 500 media experts, Lie Detectors reaches over 25,000 students and 800 teachers annually across 1,300 classrooms in five languages. As a \u201cSupportive Partner of eTwinning\u201d, it also offers international training for educators. Its work has earned several awards, including the 2018 Digital Skills Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lie Detectors also contributes to EU policy on education and digital rights, co-authoring the EU Guidelines on Tackling Disinformation and participating in expert groups shaping digital literacy policy. Independent of commercial or political funding, it stands at the intersection of journalism, education, and media literacy, making it a key European actor in building resilience against disinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
