Teachers TV

Teachers TV was the digital channel for everyone who works in schools. Its programmes covered every subject in the curriculum, all key stages and every professional role – from teaching assistant to headteacher. You could watch it on digital cable and satellite and programmes are also available anytime, on-demand and for free on this website. Sadly, along with many other well-known UK agencies active in the education and training sphere including Becta, Teachers TV has fallen foul of cutbacks in UK spending. From the end of March 2011 this terrific source of free education videos and resources aimed at the professional development of teachers has no longer been available.

Luckily its resources are now available on

* Digital Storytelling: Watch stories, explore narrative, investigate new technologies and check out resources that have to do with digital storytelling. Including Mobile Projects such as "'Scape the Hood", the first gps-enabled mobile media project:
"Scape the Hood was conceived and designed as a locative storytelling project for the Digital Storytelling Initiative at KQED for the opening of the 8th annual Digital Storytelling Festival. We convened a group of storytellers, artists, and technologists to envision what this project could be. It became a narrative archeology experiment, combining digital storytelling and emerging technology by overlaying a virtual landscape on the physical world. As originally designed, the audience walks the streets and listens to the neighbourhood stories, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells from both the physical and the virtual world."

ArtisanCam

"ArtisanCam is a free interactive web site which introduces children (mainly 7-14 year old pupils) and their teachers to the world of contemporary visual art.

ArtisanCam provides an insight into the lives of contemporary artists. Using a mixture of video and interactive activities, we introduce children to the world of contemporary visual art before encouraging them to have a go themselves in fun and exciting ways.

The website is divided into the Artists Zone, which contains classroom-based activities and the Activity Zone, which is full of games and fun interactive activities, designed to encourage children to continue their learning at home.

ArtisanCam has been designed to help teachers deliver a creative curriculum and inspire young artists of the future. All of our activities support the national curriculum in specific areas at Key Stage 2 and 3." This web site also offers very detailed information for lesson plans such as targeted learning goals.

You can find an interview with the ArtisanCam originator and Content Director Keith Alexander as part of the MEDEA Showcase of ArtisanCam: http://www.medea-awards.com/artisancam.
