Theorem of Fire
Theorem of Fire (Teoreem Tulest), created in 2009 by NAFTA Films (Estonia - http://www.nafta.ee), is a scientific and educational documentary about fire safety. The film shows dangerous situations related to various fire accidents with commentaries from appropriate specialists. The production of the film "Theorem of fire" has been financed and ordered by the Estonian Rescue Board in 2009 with the goal of raising public awareness about fire safety, to reduce fire casualties, fire accidents and to increase the use of smoke detectors in people’s houses.
Theorem of fire explains the development of a fire with different visual effects, scales and comments. It also describes how a smoke detector works using special effects and close-ups. The film has been produced so that parts of it can be used and questions answered with the help of a specialist or a teacher. The film recommends the right behaviour in case of a fire and explains how an emergency call centre works as well as the fire department.
The film is suitable for adults as well as youngsters starting from the age of 10. It has been used within the emergency prevention field in the Estonian Rescue Board since 2009 as part of different educational programmes for children and youngsters as well as adults, has been shown on TV on different occasions and has also been sent to all secondary schools in Estonia.

Traditions across Europe
Traditions Across Europe is a project within the eTwinning community (http://www.etwinning.net/en/pub/index.htm), which is an EU programme that enables and encourages European schools to collaborate using ICT. Traditions Across Europe is based on an information exchange amongst 22 European schools about particular aspects, activities and traditions of the school's own country, a blog was set up by the schools to support this exchange. There, the 10 to 11 year old pupils of the Istituto Comprensivo "Don Bosco"- Francavilla in Sinni" (PZ) in Italy shared what they experienced and made at school as they learned about their own origins, history and traditions. Through the project's blog, and with the help of their two teachers Gina Antonietta Mango and Carmelo Mario Martino, the Italian pupils could communicate and exchange materials about their countries' traditions.
The children were engaged in the search and discovery of local traditions: songs, typical recipes, festivities, games and particular activities (wine-making, cider-making, olive oil extraction). It was a whole experience for the pupils, as they were confronted with the materials the other schools published on the blog and as they got to know more about the local, national and European culture. The most innovative and creative elements of the project were the confrontations that occured with foreign pupils and teachers, the analysis of authentic materials such as traditional objects, instruments, places, photographs, texts… and of course the usage of ICT to search and communicate, the realization and the usage of the Blog (http://traditionsacrosseurope.wordpress.com) and the usage of eTwinning twinspace (http://twinspace.etwinning.net/launcher.cfm?lang=en&ca=traditionsacrosse...).

Traditions Across Europe è un progetto nell'ambito della comunità eTwinning (http://www.etwinning.net/en/pub/index.htm), un programma comunitario che consente e incoraggia le scuole europee a collaborare con le TIC. Traditions Across Europe è basato sullo scambio di informazioni tra 22 scuole europee su aspetti specifici, attività e tradizioni del Paese della scuola, un blog è stato istituito dalle scuole a supporto di tale scambio. Lì, gli alunni di 10-11 anni di età dell'Istituto Comprensivo "Don Bosco" - Francavilla in Sinni "(PZ) in Italia hanno condiviso ciò che hanno sperimentato e fatto a scuola mentre imparavano a conoscere le proprie origini, la storia e le tradizioni. Attraverso il blog del progetto e con l'aiuto dei loro due insegnanti Gina Antonietta Mango e Carmelo Mario Martino, gli studenti italiani hanno potuto comunicare e scambiare materiali sulle tradizioni dei loro paesi.
I bambini sono stati impegnati nella ricerca e scoperta delle tradizioni locali: canzoni, ricette tipiche, feste, giochi e attività particolari (vinificazione, sidro, estrazione di olio d'oliva). È stata un'esperienza completa per gli alunni, dato che si sono confrontati con i materiali delle altre scuole pubblicati sul blog e dato che hanno avuto modo di conoscere meglio la cultura locale, nazionale ed europea. Gli elementi più innovativi e creativi del progetto sono stati gli scontri che si sono verificati con alunni e docenti stranieri, l'analisi di materiali autentici, come oggetti della tradizione, strumenti, luoghi, fotografie, testi ... e, naturalmente, l'uso delle TIC per cercare e comunicare, la realizzazione e l'utilizzo del Blog (http://traditionsacrosseurope.wordpress.com) e l'utilizzo di TwinSpace eTwinning (http://twinspace.etwinning.net/launcher.cfm?lang=en&ca=traditionsacrosse ...)

Eyes on the Skies
Eyes on the Skies consists of a 60-minute DVD and a 132-page, full-colour book, exploring the development of the telescope over the four centuries following Galileo's breakthrough, along with all the astronomical riches this instrument has revealed. The DVD gathers animations, simulations and stunning photographs, displaying the heavens revealed by astronomers while the film's host and narrator explain these unveiled cosmic answers, as well as pointing out areas of continuing mystery. Rounding out the Eyes on the Skies package is a sturdy, hardcover textbook that complements the film, creating a comprehensive educational experience.
Eyes on the Skies, by telling the history of the telescope in astronomy, aims to offer a compelling perspective on how human knowledge of space and our place in it has been completely revolutionised in the last 400 years. The Universe is a vast, complex, mind-boggling realm; showing science's step-wise visual foray into the final frontier will help make astronomy much more accessible and "real" to students of most ages. The DVD runs for 60 minutes and contains subtitles in several languages. The Eyes on the Skies book is available in English, German, Finnish, Korean and Japanese. DVD and chapter excerpts, along with beautiful photographs are also freely available to the general public, teachers and students worldwide.
The Eyes on the Skies movie is presented by Dr. J aka Dr. Joe Liske from European Southern Observatory (ESO - http://www.eso.org/public), and the authors are Govert Schilling (Alles over Sterrenkunde, the Netherlands - http://allesoversterrenkunde.nl) and Lars Lindberg Christensen (European Space Agency (ESA) - http://www.esa.int/esaCP/index.html and ESO, Germany), who strive to contribute to the popularisation of science and technology.

Water Project H2Ooooh!
Water Project H2Ooooh! is a TV-series of 3D cartoon animations that were created based on story boards developed by Italian schools. In 2010 this initiative was devised by Gruppo Alcuni in collaboration with the UNESCO Venice Office and Rai Fiction.
With “Water Project H2Ooooh!” 6,000 students ages 6 to 16 from 280 Italian schools were actively engaged to create a storyboard (or in other words a series of drawings representing the main scenes of a cartoon) on the theme of water and the issues related to its use, to its exploitation and to its limited supply. The schools took part in an educational course which included videos, books, etc which on the one hand allowed children to learn about the creation of animated cartoons and on the other hand it also encouraged a greater understanding of the situation related to water resources in our world today.
The project has been carried out during the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years and was aimed at all teachers open to participating in a creative activity on the theme of water and science with their Primary or early Secondary school classes. The result is a 3-D animated television series in English and Italian (Italian subtitles) with six Pet Pals as main characters focusing on the issue of water protection, which has been broadcast on the public national broadcaster Rai Due in May and June 2010.

Progetto Acqua H2Ooooh! è una serie televisiva di cartoni animati in 3D creati sulla base di storyboard sviluppate da scuole italiane. Nel 2010 l'iniziativa è stata ideata dal Gruppo Alcuni in collaborazione con l'Ufficio UNESCO di Venezia e Rai Fiction.
Con "Progetto Acqua H2Ooooh!" 6.000 studenti dai 6 a 16, da 280 scuole italiane sono stati impegnati attivamente a creare uno storyboard (o in altre parole, una serie di disegni che rappresentano le scene principali di un cartone animato) sul tema dell'acqua e delle problematiche relative al suo utilizzo, alla sua sfruttamento e alla sua quantità limitata. Le scuole hanno partecipato ad un corso di formazione che comprendeva video, libri, ecc, che da un lato hanno permesso ai bambini di conoscere la creazione di cartoni animati e, dall'altro hanno anche incoraggiato una maggiore comprensione della situazione relativa alle risorse idriche nel nostro mondo di oggi.
Il progetto è stato realizzato durante 2008-2009 e gli anni scolastici 2009-2010 ed era diretto a tutti gli insegnanti disponibili a partecipare ad un'attività creativa sul tema dell'acqua e della scienza con le loro classi elementari e medie. Il risultato è una serie televisiva di cartoni animati 3-D in italiano e inglese (sottotitoli in italiano) con sei Amici Animali come protagonisti che mettono a fuoco il tema della protezione delle acque, che è stata trasmessa sull'emittente pubblica nazionale Rai Due nel maggio e giugno 2010.

Water in Ethiopia
These three multimedia activities were developed in 2009 as part of a distance learning module of the Open University (OU - http://www.open.ac.uk) in the UK. The module, ‘Environment: journeys through a changing world’ takes an interdisciplinary approach to teaching environment and sustainability to new undergraduate students of all ages. Approximately 2000 students have completed the module since it started. It will be presented for several years to come and is available throughout Europe.
The module is divided into six blocks of study that take students on a journey to six different locations around the world. Focusing on Ethiopia, these three self-contained DVD-based activities are an integral part of Block 3 of the module. Students use printed books as their primary learning source and are referred to the DVD as required. The three activities use a blend of video and other resources to teach specific aspects of water use and water resources management. By incorporating questions, they encourage students to explore the learning resources and extract key points of information.

Mindsetter is a learning game on change management, created in 2009 by Christian Harpelund and currently used at the Danish School of Education (Denmark). It is meant to teach employees, consultants and managers how to recognize and work with resistance to change in their organisation or project. The game, available in Danish or English, is based on a model provided by Rick Maurer, called 3 levels of resistance, and aims to make this model come alive to the participants.
At the start of the game, the participants are provided with a challenge, e.g. to change the current values of an organisation. They have to go through 4 phases: initial recognition of the need to change, planning, implementing and integrating. In the game, the participants (or players) manage a department with 10 employees who are opposing the change and, dependent on what the players decide to do, these employees will leave the project by resisting the change in different manners.
The goal of the game is to navigate the project (illustrated as a boat in the game) through all 4 project phases while keeping the employees on board, as well as trying to pick those up who leave the project. The game can be played as a board-game with up to 40 participants, or it can be played as a simulation, either as a group or in solitary. The game-interface provides an interchangeable case, which can be played in both ways. The purpose of the game is to make the theory come alive to the participants; rather than remembering that decision A leads to employees leaving the project while exhibiting resistance condition B, the participants are allowed to experiment with different kinds of change management behaviour while experimenting with and experiencing their consequences. While the board-game explains the theory to the participants, the simulator helps speed up the participants' experiments, thereby allowing them to emphasise the experimental element of the learning process.
The game is currently being used with top- and middle managers, at university programmes teaching adult education, human resource management, change management and game-didactic design. It is first used for teaching the particular theory (Rick Maurer's 3 levels of resistance) and is used afterwards to design and test change scenarios for particular change projects.

'Kaatje' is a hosting concept for the youngest viewers of KETNET (http://www.ketnet.be), the TV channel for children from Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT), the Flemish public broadcaster in Belgium. Kaatje is a little girl who lives in a snowglobe (with stars instead of snow) together with her friend Kamiel, a dinosaur and her doll 'Eendje' (little duck). The three of them play together and discover the world while Kaatje thinks she knows everything and is always right, although she also makes mistakes. And Kamiel just adores Kaatje; their adventures are programmed in between the other programmes, so they are hosting little children through their TV hour.
The adventures of Kaatje have no link with the content of the programmes, but what is very important in 'Kaatje' is creativity and interaction, stimulating little children to sing and dance along, ... Toddlers and pre-schoolers go through an exciting period of development and learn - both at home and in school - colours, how to draw, read and write, handicraft, ride a bike, climb, tie their laces, play with other kids, … The world of Kaatje (both on TV and online) stimulates a number of these skills through the various online games. Children for example practise hand-eye coordination (through Bumba's shaking game, Kaatje's balloon game and labyrinth game, learn colours, sounds, new words, figures, learn to make associations (which figure does not fit, find the difference and memory game), and Kaatje gives children the opportunity to discover new things and stimulates their imagination.
