Dive into XR with Leiden and Leuven

Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies are rapidly improving and costs are coming down. The momentum is now there to use these technologies in mainstream higher education.

But how do you develop good experiences? What are the strong and weak sides of different immersion technologies? And how can you implement XR in mainstream higher education? And what does it cost?

In this workshop:

  • we’ll tell you what we’ve been doing, what worked well and what was difficult, as well as what we’ve learned on the added values of XR;
  • you can experience our apps;
  • you’ll work in groups to develop a great app concept.

After the workshop you’ll know the ins and outs of the different immersive technologies. You’ll know more about how XR can be used in education (and how not). And together with other participants you’ll have been working on transferring a great idea into the concept of an immersive educational experience.

You’ll leave the workshop inspired and eager to develop XR further as part of your educational offer.

The Centre for Innovation of Leiden University has developed more than 10 VR (Oculus Go) apps and 3 AR (Hololens) apps. We’re keen on sharing our experiences, in sharing knowledge and building and sharing apps for higher education.

The Leuven Institute for Media and Learning of KU Leuven has over 40 years of experience in developing educational video. We are currently focused on researching and developing new VR apps for education.
