Prof Prof Friedrich Krotz

Friedrich Krotz is by training a mathematician and a sociologist and is working as a researcher in communication and media studies. He after a lot of other positions since 2010 holds a chair in Social Communication and Mediatization Research at the Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Bremen.
His research took place in different European countries, in the United States of America and Japan. As a guest researcher and for academic teaching he was 1995 at the Indiana University, Blomington, USA and 2006 at the University of Merida, Mexico. He is mainly interested in Media and Communication theory, Media Sociology, Research Methods, Cultural studies and Mediatization Research.
Besides his main work, he from 2008 to 2016 was the responsible Editor of Communications – The European Journal of Communication research ( Since 2010 he is an elected member of the International Council of the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). He in addition is the founder and coordinator of the priority programme “Mediatized Worlds”, financed by the German Research Foundation DFG since 2009. This priority programme consisted of three 2-years-periods and 13 funded research projects in each period on different Universities mainly in Germany in order to study the consequences for everyday life, culture and society of the changing media landscapes.
