Dr Birgitte Schoenmakers

Birgitte Schoenmakers is trained as a general practitioner and currently Head of Academic Teaching Practice Leuven. Since 2009 she is professor at the KU Leuven, Department of Public Health and Primary Care, and responsible for the assessment and evaluation of Master in Family Medicine and the Coordination of the continuous medical education program in Family Medicine. She is affiliated with KU Leuven’s Academic Centre of General Practice, specialized in home and elderly care in general and dementia care in particular. Birgitte Schoenmakers is member of the Supreme Council of Medical Specialists and General Practitioners (Belgium), appointed expert in dementia matters and elderly care of the Superior Health Council of Belgium, and member of Interdem, an international dementia experts research group
