The pedagogy of using student-produced digital video for assessment

This presentation will discuss the results of a qualitative research study into the use of student-produced digital video for assessment. The study, involving 26 participants at two higher education institutions, investigated the pedagogy behind video-based assessment. As well as seeking to identify the pedagogical approach of educators in three different disciplines (Management, Sports Studies and Computing), the study focussed, through observation and interviews, on how the activities were experienced and enacted by four groups of students. Video was used to record student activity and interaction and Critical Incident Analysis used to identify clips for analysis. Thematic analysis was used to develop themes and generate conclusions.
