From 24 to 31 October 2026, UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week starts, this year under the theme “We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People”. The theme reflects the idea that advancing media and information literacy is a shared responsibility that relies on contributions from every part of society.
Rather than one central conference, this is decentralised and participatory, linking regional and thematic events run by UNESCO offices and partners worldwide. It will bring together policymakers, educators, researchers, journalists, young people, content creators, regulators, parents and civil society organisations. Flagship events will take place in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Al Rayyan, Qatar, including a focus on parents and caregivers and an MIL Cities event from 28 October to 3 November.
Organisations can also contribute their own activities. Events can be held online or in person during September, October or November 2026, and can range from workshops, conferences and debates to exhibitions, training sessions, youth activities and campaigns.
