Intersectoral Chapter for Digital and Media Literacy approved by UNESCO

UNESCO

We are delighted to announce that UNESCO has approved our Intersectoral Chapter for Digital and Media Literacy, written by our colleague, Chloé Pété.

This Chapter was created to fill the gap: many networks already bring together large communities of educators, practitioners, students, media organisations and regulators, yet they rarely have a shared space to compare priorities and work together across sectors. Rather than adding another layer of bureaucracy, it offers a lightweight and practical way to connect networks that are already doing valuable work, often with little visibility beyond their own sector. Operating one level above national coalitions, it links the networks that themselves connect national and local actors.

The purpose of the Chapter is threefold:

  • to create a trusted space where networks can exchange knowledge, coordinate their activities and avoid duplicating efforts
  • to increase the visibility and influence of digital and media literacy work among policymakers and the wider public
  • to strengthen the voice of this intersectoral community within the UNESCO MIL Alliance

Planned activities include an annual survey of digital and media literacy work across member networks, joint webinars, campaigns and position papers on emerging challenges, and more. We look forward to sharing more on the Chapter’s work in due course.
