About this member

The Australian Media Literacy Alliance (AMLA) works to create a united, evidence-based approach to advancing media literacy education in Australia. AMLA is committed to ensuring media literacy is a national priority and to supporting the media literacy of all Australians. AMLA is driven to ensure every citizen is equipped to face challenges and seize opportunities in a world increasingly defined by media and information abilities.
AMLA defines media literacy as the ability to use media critically and creatively and understands it is essential for a fair and inclusive democracy.
Founded in 2020, AMLA began as an unincorporated consortium of major public cultural institutions, collaborating with the shared objectives in media literacy across Australia. It is underpinned by the expertise of Queensland University of Technology’s Digital Media Research Centre, Western Sydney University’s Institute for Culture and Society, and the University of Canberra’s News and Media Research Centre. Other core members include the two national public broadcasters, SBS and ABC, the national library peak body, Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), the Australian Center for the Moving Image (ACMI) and the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) who play a significant role in Australian media literacy education.

Lund University

The division for educational development (AHU), is an academic development unit commissioned to contribute to the development of education on all levels. We collaborate with the faculties and other educational development units within the university in offering courses on higher education pedagogy and supporting teachers. Research regarding development of higher education pedagogy is conducted at the unit. AHU also is specially commissioned to support the development of e-learning at the university and has responsibility for managing and supporting some systems for e-learning, including learning management systems, video platforms, and e-meeting tools. Drop-in online workshops held regularly help the university’s teaching staff with the use of these platforms and tools. AHU also houses a video studio for the filming, editing, and production of educational videos. Similar video studios are found at some other faculties at Lund university, too.
