How can vlogging become a meaningful learning activity in schools? The Vlogging Beyond Classrooms (ViBes) project set out to answer this question. Led by NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and Dublin City University (DCU), the two-year Erasmus+ partnership connected primary school pupils in Belgium, Ireland, Norway and South Korea, who exchanged video blogs about their learning, culture and everyday lives.
Feedback from pupils, teachers and school leaders points to vlogging as a highly engaging pedagogical approach. It gave pupils new ways to express themselves, to show knowledge and skills beyond traditional classroom formats, and to take a more active role in their learning. Teachers also found that it offered fresh insight into their pupils’ strengths, interests and development.
To support educators who want to try vlogging, the project has launched a website with free resources, including examples of pupil-created vlogs, a behind-the-scenes film on the production process, and practical guidance to help schools bring vlogging into teaching and learning.
