Gemini, your assistant in the edit room

Google’s own AI service, Gemini, is exceptionally good at analysing images and videos. Paste a YouTube link in the prompt window and Gemini will return in a very short time a text summary of the video content. You can even ask Gemini to just search for that part of information in the video that you are looking for: ask Gemini to find what a presenter says in a long video about for example climate change. Similarly Gemini can also describe images for you, and it is particularly creative in telling stories about what it thinks it sees in the image you upload. However it has its limitations for example in describing people.

The ID Toolbox

NextGen AI Learning – The ID Toolbox is a free online collection of more than 50 practical tools designed to simplify the everyday work of instructional designers, course developers, educational technologists and digital learning professionals. Created by Curt Zilbersher, an experienced instructional designer, the platform focuses on solving common technical and production challenges in digital education. Users can find tools for planning and estimating course development, checking learning objectives, processing audio and video captions, improving accessibility, preparing translations, managing images and validating SCORM packages. The tools are organised around three stages: before development, during production and before publication. Each tool addresses a specific task and can be used directly in a web browser, without registration or payment. Files are processed locally rather than uploaded to a server. This is a particularly useful resource for improving production workflows, reducing repetitive work and ensuring the technical quality and accessibility of digital learning materials.
