Helping young people develop the competences and attitudes necessary to deal with disinformation and so called ‘Fake news’ was at the heart of the recent ‘Fight disinformation with media literacy’ held in Bozar, Brussels on 13 November. This event was organised by the Evens Foundation and the Media & Learning Association with the support of the European Commission. The aim of the event was to share information about the many organisations and initiatives active in this area across Europe.
The day began with a presentation by Paolo Cesarini, Head of Unit from the Media Convergence and Social Media unit of DG Connect in the European Commission who spoke about policies and changes taking place across the union in respect to handling and being responsible for combating disinformation. The rest of the day was given over to workshops and initiatives, with hands-on sessions led by several different projects including Mind over Media in EU, Media in Action, FactBar EDU and EMELS. A full video report on the day with interviews with many of the workshop leaders will be available shortly and will be published here on the Media & Learning website.
