Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center

The Hellenic Film, & Audiovisual Media Centre – EKKOMED is the national body responsible for implementing the country’s film and audiovisual policy, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. It was established by Law 5105/2024, merging the Greek Film Centre and the National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME). E.K.K.O.ME.D.’s strategy is based on three central pillars of action: a) creating the appropriate infrastructure to strengthen and support domestic business activity in the audiovisual and film sector and the broad Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs); b) designing the national archival policy for the audiovisual sector and safeguarding and preserving audiovisual and film heritage; and c) developing a policy framework for Audiovisual Education and Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in Greece.

The third pillar of action focuses on Education and Training, implemented by the Education and Heritage Unit of the General Film Directorate under the three-part framework of Education – Training – Awareness. It focuses on shaping policies and cultivating screen literacy skills in visual culture through the development of policy recommendations, educational programs, and projects in both formal and non-formal education, as well as in lifelong learning and training in order to support broad creative ecosystem in Greece and abroad.
