Media Literacy Ireland
Media Literacy Ireland is an informal alliance of over 350 individuals and organisations who work together on a mainly voluntary basis to promote all aspects of media literacy in Ireland. Facilitated by the media regulator (Coimisiún na Méan), MLI brings a wide range of sectors together including the national, local and community media, education, academia, digital technology platforms, libraries, as well as the community and voluntary sector and the youth sector.
Our vision is to empower people with the skills and knowledge to be able to make informed choices about the media content and services that they use and engage with.
Our work is concentrated on four strands:
Coordination – We are the acknowledged first port of call in Ireland for media literacy, providing support, advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders.
Communication – We foster discussion and debate around all aspects of media literacy in Ireland to help identify emerging issues, gaps in provision and opportunities for collaboration.
Promotion – We use the strength, reach and expertise of MLI members to create highlight media literacy related issues and signpost to sources of support.
Innovation – We inspire, encourage and facilitate the development of new media initiatives and we encourage evaluation and sustainability.
We organise the annual MLI Awards event and we coordinate the Be Media Smart campaign. bemediasmart.ie
