AI-LITERATE: Upskilling Higher Education in the Age of Generative AI and Disinformation supports higher education institutions in responding to the challenges and opportunities introduced by Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), with a particular focus on disinformation and ethical AI use. As GenAI increasingly shapes academic practices, many educators and students lack the digital literacy needed to critically assess AI-generated content and integrate these technologies responsibly into teaching and learning.
Implemented across Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Poland, and Belgium, AI-LITERATE aims to strengthen AI literacy by enhancing understanding of ethical AI usage, bias detection, and academic integrity. The project investigates how GenAI contributes to the spread of disinformation through empirical research, case studies, and participatory activities, while identifying effective strategies to counter AI-generated misinformation. It also examines the broader impact of GenAI on higher education, from teaching methodologies to learning outcomes, supporting evidence-based integration of AI tools in academic contexts.
Key outcomes include the development of a structured blended learning programme on GenAI and disinformation, innovative multimedia educational outputs created through a collaborative bootcamp, and practical guidelines for the responsible integration of AI in higher education. By fostering critical thinking, ethical awareness, and institutional readiness, AI-LITERATE empowers academic communities to engage with AI technologies responsibly and strengthens Europe’s capacity for informed and resilient higher education systems.
As part of the project, Media & Learning will lead dissemination efforts and support the development of innovative training resources, capacity-building workshops, and the co-creation of guidelines to support the integration of AI literacy into higher education curricula.
