This month, the Media & Learning Association is pleased to welcome four new members: the University of Vienna, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Britannica Education and the Deutshe Welle Akademie.
Established in 1365, the University of Vienna is one of the oldest and largest universities in Europe and the largest research institution in Austria with currently 20 faculties and centers. In Media & Learning, the University of Vienna participates through its Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), providing lecturers and students with the support and services they need to develop their didactic competencies and study skills.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) is the largest university in Greece, covering all disciplines. It comprises 10 faculties, which consist of 40 schools and one single-School Faculty. AUTh constitutes a comprehensive institution with faculties and schools serving a vast array of scientific fields, ranging from natural and technological to social and health sciences, arts, and humanities. The university aims to offer equal opportunities for learning, research, and communication. It aspires to create an environment where education and research thrive, and subsequently, realize the vision for a better world with equal rights for everybody to claim the fruits of economic growth and social prosperity. The IT Center of AUTh is responsible for all network and computing infrastructure, IT services of the university, and the IT Helpdesk. Its activities cover the provisioning, maintenance, operations, upgrades, and development of IT resources. The IT Center has today more than 90 highly qualified employees. As a strategic partner of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and receiving funding from the Federal Foreign Office and the European Union, DW Akademie is active in more than 70 developing countries and emerging economies. They strengthen sustainable development through media, promoting free expression, human rights, and the development of functioning media systems worldwide. Their five strategic fields of action are Media and Information Literacy, Media Viability, Media and Journalism Education, Innovation for Dialogue, and Media Safety, while also addressing cross-cutting topics such as gender and inclusion, disinformation, and AI.
