The Research in Learning Technology journal has published a “Learner skills in open virtual mobility” paper. The research in this article presents the skills and competences of students supported by Open Virtual Mobility. Open VM is a new trend in online education based on the concepts of open education and virtual mobility. Based on the input from experts in both fields the research identified a set of skills and competences of the learners which include: intercultural skills and attitudes, networked learning, active self-regulated learner skills, media and digital literacy, autonomy-driven learning, interactive and collaborative learning in an authentic international environment and open-mindedness. The study contributed to a further conceptualisation of OpenVM to bring VM and OE closer together.
