Kick-off of AI-LITERATE: advancing AI Literacy in European Higher Education

From 3 to 5 December, the AI-LITERATE team gathered in Poznań, Poland, for the project’s official kick-off meeting, hosted by Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU). Over three productive days, partners from Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Poland, and Belgium came together to plan upcoming actions, define next steps, and align on expected project outputs.

AI-LITERATE: Upskilling Higher Education in the Age of Generative AI and Disinformation supports higher education institutions in addressing the opportunities and challenges posed by Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), with a particular focus on disinformation and ethical AI use. As GenAI increasingly transforms teaching and learning, the project aims to equip educators and students with the skills to critically assess AI-generated content and integrate AI technologies responsibly.

During the kick-off, the team discussed key objectives, including promoting AI literacy, investigating the role of GenAI in spreading disinformation, and examining the broader impact of AI on higher education practices. Planned outputs include a blended learning programme on GenAI and disinformation, innovative multimedia projects through a collaborative bootcamp, and practical guidelines for responsible AI integration in HEIs.

By fostering critical thinking, ethical awareness, and institutional readiness, AI-LITERATE sets the stage for empowering European academic communities to navigate the AI-driven digital landscape responsibly.
