The European Commission has just launched the long-awaited public element of its consultation on its main policy instrument on digitisation, online access and digital preservation of cultural heritage material. The Commission is asking for stakeholders’ opinion on what the priorities and directions for digital cultural heritage should be for the future. Specifically, it wants to know how to better reflect the sector’s digital needs and challenges and increase the potential benefit of Europe’s cultural heritage for society. This is an important opportunity for anyone concerned with the future of Europeana to have their say as a dedicated question in the consultation asks participants to rate how important it is for the EU to fund Europeana which provides free access to European archives, libraries and museums. So if you are concerned about this topic in general and also if you would like to support Europeana, take a few minutes to respond to this consultation. The consultation will close on 14 September.
