From policy to practice: advancing GenAI Literacy in Higher Education

As generative AI tools rapidly reshape academic practices—from writing and research to assessment and creativity—universities face urgent questions about how to prepare both educators and students for responsible and effective use of these technologies. This session introduces AI-LITERATE, a European initiative designed to strengthen AI literacy in Higher Education by developing evidence-based guidelines, case studies, and targeted learning pathways.

The webinar will explore two key components of the project. First, a mapping of GenAI-related media literacy policies in Higher Education across the project’s target countries and additional HEI will be presented. Second, the session will showcase the project’s blended learning programme, created to support HEI professors and students in developing the skills, critical understanding, and ethical awareness needed for meaningful engagement with generative AI in teaching and learning.

Participants will gain insight into how universities are responding to the challenges and opportunities of GenAI, and how guidelines could inform professional development, curriculum design, and responsible AI integration across Higher Education.

Target group: Higher Education professors and educators, HEI administrators, digital and media literacy practitioners, researchers, instructional designers, librarians, policymakers, edtech professionals, and all stakeholders interested in strengthening GenAI literacy in academic contexts.
