The Gesellschaft für Informatik’s XR-Learning working group has announced the launch of the AVRiL 2026 competition, which seeks to identify and promote outstanding learning scenarios using extended reality (XR) technologies, including virtual and augmented reality.
The competition aims to highlight effective and innovative uses of XR in education, responding to the growing importance of immersive technologies in teaching and learning. As XR becomes increasingly integrated into educational contexts, the initiative addresses the continued need for well-designed pedagogical approaches and transferable models for implementation.
Organised by the XR-Learning working group within the GI’s specialist sections on educational technologies and VR/AR, the AVRiL competition has been running for several years and serves as a platform to increase the visibility of high-quality XR-based learning designs across disciplines.
Submissions are expected to demonstrate not only technological innovation but also strong didactic design, practical relevance, and evidence of learning effectiveness. Previous editions have attracted contributions from a wide range of fields, underlining the cross-disciplinary potential of XR for education.
Through this call, the organisers invite educators, researchers, and practitioners to contribute their work and help shape future-oriented, evidence-based approaches to immersive learning.
The submission deadline for AVRiL 2026 is 31 May 2026!
