Following the success of the MLA2025 pre-conference workshop hosted by KU Leuven in June this year, Media & Learning identified a growing interest within the community for a dedicated space focused on centres leading innovation in teaching and learning. In response to this need, we are delighted to announce the launch of a new Special Interest Group (SIG) on Centres for Teaching and Learning (CTLs).
This SIG brings together CTLs, learning labs, and educational innovation units that advance pedagogy through media and technology in higher education. It provides a collaborative network where members can share experiences, exchange insights, and discuss challenges related to developing and integrating innovative teaching and learning practices.
A key focus of the group is to explore how emerging technologies can meaningfully support learning design, media production, and staff and student development. By connecting institutional expertise, the SIG aims to strengthen the role of pedagogical centres as drivers of educational transformation, fostering a culture of experimentation, collaboration, and shared learning across higher education.
The new SIG will host regular events, share fresh insights, and create lively opportunities for collaboration — a space where members can connect, exchange ideas, and support one another’s work.
As a first step in building this community, we will host our first CTL SIG meetup on 19 December 2025 at 11:00 CET. All CTL SIG members are warmly invited to register and take part. If you are not yet registered as a CTL SIG member, you are very welcome to sign up.
Please note that SIG membership is open exclusively to MLA members.
