The EU Code of Practice on Disinformation has been in operation since 2018 when for the first time ever in Europe, self-regulatory standards were put in place to limit the spread of disinformation online. Many of the large scale platforms and providers signed up to this code which was revised in 2022. The code addressed several relevant areas including fact-checking, access to data and, importantly for our target community, support of media literacy. On February 13, the European Commission and the European Board for Digital Services endorsed the integration of the 2022 Code of Practice into the framework of the DSA as a Code of Conduct on Disinformation. This integration will make the Code a benchmark for determining platforms’ compliance with the DSA and will take effect from 1 July 2025. Part 5 of this new code focuses on empowering users and is partiuclarly relevant for the media Literay commmunity
