In June, the European Council recommended member states to adopt a European approach to micro-credentials and in particular to apply a common EU definition, EU standards and key principles for the design and issuance of micro-credentials. This follows on from the EC proposal of last December for a Council recommendation which was published alongside another proposal on individual learning accounts. This is an important step towards the wider adoption of micro-credentials and means that Member states will be invited to inform the Commission by December 2023 about measures to support the objectives of the recommendation.
