Welcome to our new members from Finland, Ireland and United Kingdom!

This month the Media & Learning Association is pleased to welcome a new organisational member: Laurea University of Applied Sciences, Finland and two new networking members: Media Literacy Ireland and Learning on Screen, United Kingdom.

Laurea University of Applied Sciences operates in the Uusimaa region, Finland at six different campuses. There are about 9,900 students, 660 staff members and 34,700 alumni in the Laurea community. Laurea offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in both English and Finnish. In 2024, Laurea provided degrees in the following fields: Business Information Technology and Developing Services, Business Information Technology and Cyber Security, Business Management, Safety, Security, and Risk Management, Nursing, Social Services, Hospitality Management and Service Design, Service Innovation and Design, Global Health and Crisis Management, and Leading Transformational Change. Laurea engages in research, development, and innovation across several areas, including entrepreneurship, pedagogy and co-creation, as well as digitalization and information management in society. In 2024, the research programs focused on coherent security, sustainable and versatile social and health care, and the service business and circular economy.

Media Literacy Ireland (MLI) is a collaborative network of over 350 individuals and organizations, supported by Ireland’s media regulator, Coimisiún na Méan, to promote media literacy nationwide. Bringing together diverse sectors like media, education, academia, digital platforms, and community organizations, MLI aims to empower people with the knowledge and skills to make informed choices about media. Focused on coordination, communication, promotion, and innovation, MLI serves as Ireland’s key resource for media literacy, fosters dialogue, highlights issues, and drives new initiatives. Key initiatives include the annual MLI Awards and the Be Media Smart campaign (bemediasmart.ie).

Learning on Screen is a trusted educational charity and professional body dedicated to promoting the use of audiovisual materials in education and research. With decades of expertise, Learning on Screen provides tools, training, and resources to help educators, researchers, and students make the most of moving images and sound in their work. Its members benefit from access to an extensive archive of broadcast content, including TV and radio recordings, as well as curated educational resources designed to support teaching and learning across diverse subjects.

Learning on Screen believes that moving image and sound play a crucial role in education and research. By incorporating these dynamic elements alongside the written word, its members can enhance comprehension, cater to diverse learning styles, and engage attention. Through audiovisual means, it can effectively convey emotions, demonstrate practical skills, and provide valuable context to the subject matter.
