A new EU Kids Online (EUKO) report explores how children across 20 European countries access, use, and experience generative AI (GenAI). Based on surveys of 25,592 children aged 9–16 and interviews with 244 adolescents, the study sheds light on opportunities, risks, and policy implications of AI in children’s everyday digital lives. It highlights GenAI’s growing presence in search, social media, creative apps, and educational tools – and the need for guidance, skills, and safeguards to ensure safe and equitable use.
Published for Safer Internet Day 2026 under the theme “Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI”, the report reveals emerging patterns, cross‑country differences, and key areas of concern for educators, policymakers, and families.
