On 23–24 July 2025, the Librarians’ Association of the Republic of Moldova (ABRM) held the 10th edition of the Summer Academy for librarians (AVB), bringing together young professionals to strengthen their skills and design projects with real community impact.
This year’s theme, “Electoral culture – a basic attribute of participatory citizenship”, highlighted the vital role librarians play in promoting civic education and equipping communities to navigate today’s information landscape. In an era where misinformation threatens democracy and civic engagement, librarians are key actors in fostering critical thinking, teaching how to identify credible sources, and exposing manipulation techniques.
The interactive programme focused on critical analysis of electoral information, developing civic initiatives in libraries, and building professional networks. Workshops were facilitated by Natalia Grîu, education expert, and Viorica Calugher, trainer at the Centre for Continuous Training in the Electoral Field.
By promoting electoral culture and supporting civic engagement, the Summer Academy continues to establish itself as an essential platform for Moldova’s young librarians – helping them grow professionally while contributing to stronger, more informed communities rooted in democratic values.
