Specialists with something to share about helping youth do community journalism can apply to one of two 3-day workshops on that topic set for March 2025.
The initiative will accept 10 news professionals for each simultaneous session in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Tilburg, The Netherlands. Applicants can come from local media outlets across the EU and accession countries.
The focus is on people who are currently engaging in—or are interested in starting—journalism with young people aged 13–19 (though this is not a strict age limit) for significant public dissemination. The emphasis is on enabling young people to participate in creating journalism, rather than solely producing content targeted at the youth.
Participants will gain hands-on experience and develop action plans for incorporating youth-focused community journalism into their news media strategies. Up to 1000€ is available to help with participant travel and lodging costs. The deadline for applying is 25 January.
The organiser is YoCoJoIn, a consortium of news outlets from Slovenia (Zavod Časoris), Malta (SideStreet), The Netherlands (Omroep Tilburg), Hungary (Nyugat Media) and Ireland (Dublin Inquirer) along with the Media Diversity Institute (Global and West Balkans branches). YoCoJoin’s goal is to make journalism more inclusive and engaging by bringing young community reporters into local newsrooms.
