The 6th International Media Literacy Research Symposium offers a premier platform for researchers, educators, and scholars to explore critical questions in media literacy within today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. Taking place June 4–6, 2026, at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy, the symposium invites submissions from academics and practitioners at all career stages, from graduate students to established researchers.
With the rise of artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and sophisticated misinformation campaigns, media literacy research is more crucial than ever. This symposium provides an opportunity to present cutting-edge research, share innovative practices, and contribute to discussions that impact democratic participation, education, and social justice.
Submissions are welcomed in three formats: individual presentations, panel presentations, and roundtables. Researchers must submit an extended abstract by November 1, 2025. Acceptance notifications will be sent by December 5, 2025, and registration opens January 15, 2026, at a fee of $150.
The symposium’s research strands include:
- Media Literacy & Information Literacy Integration
- Media Literacy in Educational Practice
- Media Literacy for Social Change and Activism
- Ethics and Media Technology
- Future Directions: AI, EcoMedia, and Emerging Technologies
Participants will benefit from international networking, interdisciplinary exchange, and potential publication opportunities. By translating research into practice, the symposium seeks to shape educational policy, curriculum design, and media literacy initiatives worldwide.
