On Monday 21 October, EDMO (European Digital Media Observatory) launched a set of guidelines for effective media literacy initiatives during an event co-organised with the Media & Learning Association and attended by 80 participants. Developed by EDMO’s Working Group with input from experts and the EDMO Hubs, the guidelines aim to enhance the impact and effectiveness of media literacy projects across Europe.
The principles, grouped into three sections – development, delivery, and review – offer adaptable advice for educators, policymakers, civil society, and media professionals. By supporting initiatives like news literacy, digital literacy, and algo-literacy, EDMO seeks to increase public resilience to online disinformation.
The guidelines, which emerged from a consultation process including a public event last December 2023, are designed to help a wide range of media literacy efforts while allowing flexibility in project design.
