VII Congress on Literacy, Media and Citizenship – Coimbra, 27–28 November 2025

The Informal Group on Media Literacy (GILM), Portugal, invites professionals, researchers, educators and community organisers to submit proposals for the upcoming VII Congress on Literacy, Media and Citizenship, taking place on 27–28 November 2025 at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra.

This year’s edition is dedicated to the theme: “Behaviours, Narratives and Human Rights.”

As in previous years, the Congress will serve as a space for informed reflection, critical discussion and the exchange of experiences, perspectives and practices that help shape the present and future of media literacy. The event brings together participants from across Portugal and abroad, fostering dialogue across academic, educational, cultural and civic sectors.

🔍 GILM is now welcoming proposals for:

  • Oral presentations
  • Posters

Submissions may include:

  • Academic research
  • Pedagogical experiences
  • Community-based initiatives
  • Innovative and experimental projects

A wide variety of approaches and voices are encouraged!

Founded in 2009, GILM (Informal Group on Media Literacy) is made up of 15 institutions and one invited expert. Since 2011, the group has coordinated this national Congress as a platform for cross-sector dialogue on the evolving role of media literacy in society.
