TeaMLit, partners and advisory board get together in Zagreb to advance Teacher Education in MIL

This two day face-to-face meeting took place on 5 & 6 October 2023 in Zagreb, Croatia, organised and hosted by the Association for Communications and Media Culture (DKMK). The meeting brought together 27 media literacy experts and practitioners made up of the project partners, external advisory board members (EAB), and external guests from 14 countries to discuss project progress and ways to advance media literacy education in Europe.

On the first day of the meeting, project partners presented their different work outputs, including the results of the first round of mapping on teacher education in media literacy in Ireland, Germany, Belgium (Flanders and German-speaking community), Portugal, along with a worldview. They also discussed the TeaMLit Network and its growth along with topics that will be dicussed in the upcoming online get togethers, as well as the beta version of the repository of best practices and draft training modules.

Following the project presentations, participants engaged in a world café, where EAB members and guests were invited to join discussion groups on each are of work to discuss opportunities, challenges and provide feedback.

On the second day of the meeting, EAB members and external guests each presented national initiatives on teacher training. This provided a valuable opportunity for participants to learn from one another and to share ideas and insights about how to improve teacher education in media literacy across Europe.

The meeting concluded with a reflection on the key takeaways and next steps for the TeaMLit project. Overall, this event was a great occasion for project partners and stakeholders to exchange, and to develop a shared vision for the future of media literacy education. The meeting also highlighted the growing momentum behind the TeaMLit project and its potential to make a significant contribution to the development of teacher education in Europe.
