Boston University in the US has announced a new project to study whether creating a virtual reality interdisciplinary learning environment in which students can collaboratively grapple with virtual scenarios will both enhance their understanding of Social Determinants of Health (SDoHs) and associated Health Related Social Needs (HRSNs) as well as promote their ability to engage in collaborative problem solving with diverse health care professionals. This Digital Learning & Innovation Incubator pilot project is proposing to assess whether such an environment can increase medical, physician assistant, and social work students’ confidence in their ability to refer, advocate and ultimately mitigate Health Related Social Needs (HRSNs).
